SATURDAY | 11.29.03 | 2:37pm | snow day...

woo hoo!!! look what i woke up to this morning!!!

TUESDAY | 11.25.03 | 10:51pm | hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

slathered has listed me on their site as "party" under the catergory of "nyc culture" in their resources page... now, according to this it's a privilege of some sort... upon diving deeper into slathered you'll find that it goes on to say that "sites featured on slathered are amazing...and most are indeed produced by, let's say, alternative types." what is an "alternative type", anyway??? so it's a compliment to me! right? i mean, it also says that, by being included, revolution freedom (or perhaps me myself) is "mad genius"... that's awesome, right??? but wait, it's also "the exciting new e-destination for alcoholic columnists, government officials, new zealanders and other dilettantes." i'm getting confused... what's a woolly freak??? am i a woolly freak??? well, anyway... hello, slathered... how the heck are ya???

MONDAY | 11.24.03 | 11:58pm | winter...

it snowed today and we all thought that it was supposed to stick to the ground but it did not... sigh... i can't wait for winter in the mountains... thanksgiving is just a few days away... christmas... the new year... wow... what a quick year it's been... hey!!! you need a calendar, don't you??? i bet you almost forgot!!! what better way to remember what day or year it is than with select pieces of my own personal wardrobe??? you love it!!! i know you do...

SUNDAY | 11.23.03 | 2:43pm | vanya quendya...

okay... okay... i am a geek... i spent about five hours online last night trying to learn quenya (the elvish language invented by j.r.r. tolkien)... i've also been studying tengwar (the elvish alphabet)... it's incredibly fascinating and i'm obsessed... it's so intricate and beautiful... i particularly like translating names... to do this you have to find the meaning of the english name and translate that meaning into quenya... then you can write that name in tengwar... it's great... unfortunately dan'l isn't a common name so i'd have to go with the closest - daniel, or erunámo...

ahhh... learning yet another language that i'll never use to communicate with another living soul... ain't that brilliant???

jesus actor struck by lightning
story from bbc news

actor jim caviezel has been struck by lightning while playing jesus in mel gibson's controversial film the passion of christ. the lightning bolt hit caviezel and the film's assistant director jan michelini while they were filming in a remote location a few hours from rome. it was the second time michelini had been hit by lightning during the shoot. neither of them was badly hurt, according to the film's producer steve mceveety. michelini had previously been struck during filming in matera, italy, when he suffered light burns to his fingers after lightning hit his umbrella. describing the second lightning strike, mceveety told vlife, a supplement of the trade paper variety: "i'm about a hundred feet away from them when i glance over and see smoke coming out of caviezel's ears."

SATURDAY | 11.15.03 | 11:36pm | a year...

cmt held a tribute to the man in black tonight... coincidentally, charlie and i met one year ago tonight after one of his performances... i overheard him say to someone, "i love johnny cash..." i knew then and there that it was meant to be... now, i would have never dreamt then that in one year i'd be living in the mountains of west virginia with a country boy and a dog, but here i am... it's so hard to believe that it's been a year... one year can seem like such a short time and ironically like forever... i'm convinced that he and i knew each other in either some sort of past life or alternate universe... the connection that is there seems too organic to have been forged in a city such as it was... if new york gave me one thing that i'll take with me for the rest of my life it was, well, it was the person that i'll have beside me for the rest of my life... i'm happy...

now, as for anniversaries... how the heck to you decide on one??? how do you figure out when the relationship actually started??? until now i'd always used the date that i'd met a person... now here's a bonus of having a blog... i think that this says it all:

SATURDAY | 11.23.02 | 3:22am | the people in your life...

i love the feeling of the moment when i realize a person i know becomes a real friend... you know, that first day that you spend together without a big group of people at a bar or party... alone... eating too much pizza in your apartment and watching stupid videos... talking about books and aliens and tori amos... cuddling up on the sofa and just being happy together... when i realize that all i really want with this person is what it is right now... not needing anything more... not even thinking about tomorrow... it's that moment that sends me to bed with a smile...

THURSDAY | 11.13.03 | 10:59pm | always...

it's no surprise to me that one of the perks of moving out of new york city and into the great beyond is the fact that wal-mart is once again a part of my life... i know that there has been a lot of scrutiny concerning the number of small businesses put out by the supercenter but is there really anything better than getting bored at 3am and heading out to the all-night-all-in-one-super-center??? we can get food, clothes, household items and even craft suplies at wal-mart... we owe most of our halloween costume success to them and we even met our first area lesbian there... it was hard to believe that it could get any better than it's been until i read this article today:

playboy undresses wal-mart women
by parija bhatnagar, cnn/money staff writer

playboy.com's controversial "women of wal-mart" feature went live wednesday, showcasing six of wal-mart's "sexiest" female employees who dared to shed their uniforms for the online pictorial.

"this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," said tesha mullen, one of the feature's models. "when i heard about the pictorial, i knew right away that i wanted to send in photos. some of the most beautiful women in the world have posed for playboy, and it is an honor to have been selected for this feature."

in september playboy.com had announced it was searching for the sexiest women at wal-mart, the world's biggest retailer. playboy ran the similar-themed 'women of enron' last year and 'women of starbucks' photospreads in the magazine earlier this year.

"we received over 400 responses from wal-mart employees. that's more than the responses we got from both enron and starbucks employees," said jay nesheim, spokeswoman for playboy.com.

nesheim said the six models, including a photo lab technician, assistant manager and a department manager, were paid for their feature but would not disclose the amount.

"we knew that this would be a very provocative thing for us to do," said john thomas, editor of playboy.com. "wal-mart has a conservative corporate image, and we knew they wouldn't be thrilled. but we're hoping that the company will be pleased once they see how fun the pictures are and how empowered the women at wal-mart feel."

for its part, wal-mart said the pictorial "is in poor taste." "based on our values, we will be disappointed if any of our people do participate in it," said spokesman tom williams. "however, individuals are free to do what they want."

recently wal-mart, in an effort to spread its wholesome image as a family store, said it would put covers on a few women's magazines that typically display racy pictures and story titles.

playboy.com chose the six "sexiest" women of wal-mart from more than 400 entrants.

bentonville, ark.- based wal-mart also banned three men's magazines, including fhm, maxim, and stuff, earlier this year because it said it had received complaints from customers about their content. the chain has never sold playboy.

in the past, wal-mart has refused to sell cds that carry warning labels about explicit lyrics. instead, the store sells sanitized versions of albums, with some songs omitted or covers redrawn to pass muster with the chain's buyers.

THURSDAY | 11.13.03 | 1:46pm | cue the tick tock...

woke up today to find it snowing here... wow... snow here is just automatically different from the snow in new york... here it's backdropped by mountains rather than skyscrapers and just somehow seems to be more natural... i guess it's hard to explain... the winter is going to be interesting... i have a new web site that i'll be starting to work on in the next few weeks and charlie will probably spend a lot of time writing on his new piano... i've also been planning on doing some writing of my own, but not anything musical... he's asked to colaborate but i'm afraid of ruining his flow... i just don't connect the word "lyrical" to any of my writing... unless, of course, i can break into that "train-of-thought" song writing style that some people seem to be able to market... hmmm... nah... i'm too literal to be figurative...

trembling before g-d
all movie guide review
director sandi simcha dubowski makes his feature-length film debut with the documentary trembling before g-d, a look at gays and lesbians in hasidic and orthodox judaism. made over several years in new york, california, israel, brittain, and florida, the film follows the lives of several people struggling to express both their faith and their sexuality. In l.a., pianist david is an orthodox gay man who has been through over ten years of therapy to supposedly "cure" his homosexuality. he visits the chabad rabbi whom he first came out to over 20 years before. michelle is a hasidic lesbian who lives in brooklyn. having married only to please her family, she's been ostracized from her community ever since the divorce. also in brooklyn, israel is a gay man who's abandoned much of his hasidic life and hasn't seen his father in over 20 years. in london, twentysomething mark is a the son of an orthodox rabbi. he came out during a trip to israel, which was supposed to rid him of his sexual questioning. some participants prefer to remain anonymous or at least slightly obscured, including a lesbian couple who met in hebrew school and an ultra-orthodox closeted lesbian. the film also features some footage with various doctors and religious leaders, including the progressive psychotherapist shlomo ashkinazy and the first openly gay orthodox rabbi, steve greenberg.

SUNDAY | 11.02.03 | 3:25am | by the way...

oh, yeah... i almost forgot... charlie and i moved to west virginia a week ago... it's been so beautiful here... my southern accent is coming back... eeek... halloween preparations kept us pretty busy for a big part of the week and now we're hoping things will start to calm down... ahhhh, the quiet life... i'm loving it... of course, i'll be back up in new york in a couple of weeks for a couple of meetings and to house-sit for my old roommate heather, but that'll only be for about a week... gosh, i hope i don't miss the first snow here... i'm so excited!!! i mean, come on... WHITE snow!?!?!? i haven't seen white snow in a long long time... plus we've got an old wood burning stove here at the house... i'll be excited to get it lit up each night... daisy (the beagle) has also adjusted pretty well... we can just open up the back door and she'll run off on her own to go potty... no leash or anything... she's probably as close to doggy heaven as she's ever been...

we're living in a small town called grafton... near us is the tygart lake... that's the lake that i went into a few months ago when we visited charlie's family... they've also been wonderful... everyone is so welcoming... i can't believe how much i'm enjoying it all... the holidays are going to be great... ya'll should come out and visit!!!
